My approach to

Equipment

Carve Deeper

To carve as hard as I want without 'booting-out', I use a very wide board.  I've worked my way up in width, going from a Burton Custom 'wide' of 25.8cm to custom made boards of 27.5cm, then 29cm, to 30.5cm, and now 31.2 cm.  I'm glad I worked my way up in both width and sidecut radius, because it wasn't an overwhelming change and allowed me  to grow into each new set of specs more gradually.

Stiffer Flex

I prefer a board with a stiffer flex than most boards of today.  In my opinion most freestyle boards are too flexible... which then perform like wet noodles when riding at speeds.  With a stiffer board I get incredible stability out of it, and when doing 'buttering' tricks, I'm still riding riding an edge and having the stiffer flex hold vs. it being more of a 'press'.
